PlanetGIS Explorer

PlanetGIS Explorer is our entry-level GIS product and is available free of charge. In order to download Explorer, please log in or create a user account.

You can use Explorer as a viewer for PlanetGIS projects, but it also allows you to create new PlanetGIS projects by importing (e.g.) shapefiles and setting up your own views, layers, and styles. The documentation pages will help you to get going.

Explorer limits the amount of information you capture yourself and has a subset of the functionality that is available in our licensed product. Explorer can be licensed to unlock full data capturing abilities, providing a low-cost solution for data collection projects.

Data

World Map

Our World map, derived from Natural Earth's datasets, can be used to familiarise yourself with PlanetGIS' capabilities. Most of the examples in our software documentation refer to this map, so it will be helpful to have it in order to follow along. You can download this map from the My Account downloads section.

Regional Maps

We will help you to get started with a GIS project for your country or region, using OpenStreetMap layers as a base. You will find example projects in the My Account downloads section. Please contact us for assistance with your own project.

We offer a subscription to maintained (regularly updated from the government source) cadastral maps for South Africa. Click here for more information.
